We are downsizing our fleet, and my Mom's BMW unfortunately has to go. This is a very sharp car. It is incredibly quiet and smooth, she calls it her cream puff. It also has loads of power and TONS of electronic options. This is the Li model which means that the rear seating has an additional 5.5" of leg room over the already spacious standard 7-series. Riding in the back seat makes you feel like a celebrity. It has shades that pop up over the rear windows at the push of a button. It has heated and cooled seats, and an optional rear screen that can be controlled from the back and plays DVDs (BMW says it's $4,000 option) She has all of the manuals for the car, and it's been well taken care of. It has navigation, satellite radio, and 847 way adjustable seats (I don't know the actual number, but they will adjust in all kinds of ways!) It also has keyless push-button start, and comes with 2 of the key FOBs which have a pop out valet key inside that wont allow them access to your trunk or compartments. It's got new Pirelli tires on it.

It does have a few minor flaws, but only cosmetic. One of the rear window shade screens stays down, but the mechanism still works. It just needs to be reattached. We never use it, but I want to make sure that I mention anything wrong. The body of the car is great, but the hood, roof, and trunk have some scuffs on them from the previous owner. We just put some black wax on it occasionally and you can't really even tell. I tried to get some pictures of it, so there are no surprises. There is also some minor curb damage on one of the wheels, as pictured. The previous owner filed a claim when someone scratched the bumper in a parking lot. The OEM replacement is still looking great several years later.

I started the listing at the price the dealership offered us for trade-in. They would probably sell it for around $17k or so, so somewhere in between seems like a fair price. KBB on it is $13,775 Private Party in GOOD condition, and I think it's closer to very good. The car is located about 100 miles north of Bush airport in Houston, and about 180 miles southeast of DFW if you need to fly in. If you would rather ship it, I'll let you handle that, but I would wager it's pretty expensive.

If you have any questions, let me know and I will do my best to answer them for you!

China probing German automakers over spare parts

Sat, 26 Jul 2014

The Chinese market has proven to be a boon to German luxury automakers. However, the way that the companies have allegedly been controlling their supply of spare parts has begun to draw the ire of the nation's government. According to insiders speaking to Bloomberg, officials from the country's economic planning organization have opened a probe into Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and some Japanese carmakers over claimed price inflation and limiting supply.
Specifically, the investigation centers around two aspects of how the companies do business, according to Bloomberg. Investigators want to know whether the original equipment component makers are able to sell spare parts only to automaker-authorized dealers or if they are also available to independent shops. There is also the issue of whether the price markup on replacement pieces is too high. The tight controls could be partially explained by China's reputation for producing counterfeit parts.
Evidently, the investigators haven't checked parts prices at car dealers elsewhere in the world. At least in the US, paying more at the dealer for factory components just goes along with owning a vehicle. If evidence of price fixing is found, the companies could face fines the equivalent of millions of dollars, according to Bloomberg.

2014 BMW M6 Gran Coupe is ready for your favorite roads

Mon, 14 Jan 2013

We've known about the ins and outs of the lovely BMW M6 Gran Coupe for a while now, but that doesn't mean we weren't happy to see the thing in the metal for the first time, here in Detroit.
The M-tuned Gran Coupe utilizes the same 4.4-liter forced-induction V8 that powers both the BMW M6 and the M5, with an output of 560 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. The fast four-door brings up 60 miles per hour in just 4.1-seconds - the same sprint time as the M6 coupe and a few tenths quicker than the M5 - and up to a limited top speed of 155 mph.
We love those performance figures - this is one new Bimmer that we're amped to get some seat time in - though we're not super crazy about the selection of chrome wheels on this particular show car. Tells us what you think about the hotted up Gran Coupe in comments, below.

2014 BMW 4 Series Convertible [w/video]

Thu, 20 Feb 2014

Here it is, the fifth generation of BMW's 3 Series Convertible - only this one begins with a "4," having been rechristened as a droptop version of the new 4 Series Coupe. With thirty years of work on this same recipe and having gotten it so right for much of that time, the Munich compact premium convertible has been a WYSIWYG affair for decades: once you saw its sedan paradigm, you knew what it was going to look like in roofless two-door form, and what you saw is exactly what you got.
It is ridiculous to think that BMW would choose this new model and its new nomenclature to muck things up. The new car has, though, gotten larger and roomier, and even though it's now part of the racier coupe division within the company's compact line, it has gotten more, shall we say, mature. Driving even further away from the days when handsomely tipped bartenders could work their way into one, The Ultimate Tanning Machine had shed even more elan, going instead for elegance and an attitude befitting its $49,675 starting price (including $925 for destination).
It strikes a few odd notes, but what it does best, it still does better than anything else out there in its price range.
