For sale is a 1998 BMW 740IL. I recently purchased it from a family member for my daughter to take to school, but it is just too much car and too powerful for a new driver. 139K miles. Runs, shifts, drives like a luxury vehicle should. I drove it to NY from Virginia and have been using it daily since without any problems. Car was top of the line in 1998 and sold for over $65000 new. It is now 15 years old and is in good condition for a car its age. the car comes equipped with PS, PB, PW, CRUISE CONTROL, 6 DISC CD CHANGER, CASSETTE PLAYER, PS, SUNROOF, PM...POWER EVERYTHING. Tires have been upgraded to 18' from the factory 16". A beautiful driving experience. Some squeaking in the rear from the springs also drivers seat does not move forward or back (fuse) as well as the washer fluid and right rear window are not working but should be minor repairs. Body is in good shape. Small dent over right wheel well and front bumper cover has lower damage. Other than that the car is clean. A slight tap in the engine on start up, but seems to go away when the car is warm. That is it as far as I know. $500 deposit due at auction end with the balance in cash or certified funds when you pick up the car. Buyer is responsible for shipping can be driven anywhere! Models like the Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class may be tailor-made to introduce buyers to the premium segment, but a new study finds that they don't garner the highest rates of non-luxury customer conquests. It turns out that a Volvo leads among folks moving up to a premium brand, and it isn't even one that's made anymore, at that.
A recent study by Polk and IHS Automotive looked at what models had the highest rates of buyers upgrading from a non-luxury segment. The information comes from its new vehicle registration data through April 2014. All ten top models boasted conquest rates of over 50 percent, but the Volvo C70 led the field with 68.01 percent of its customers coming from non-premium brands.
BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe spotted wearing minimal camo, M Sport pack
Mon, 14 Oct 2013The new BMW 4 Series is essentially the coupe version of the latest 3 Series. So it would stand to reason that the four-door version of the 4 Series, in turn, would be the 3 Series - right? Well, yes and no.
Just as BMW offers both a 5 Series sedan and a four-door version of the 6 Series called the Gran Coupe, so, too, will its 4-Series family expand. So following the release of the new 4 Series Convertible, here we have the latest batch of spy shots showing the upcoming 4 Series Gran Coupe - which in turn should not be confused with the hunchbacked 3 Series Gran Turismo, which is more of a sporty wagon than a four-door coupe.
The nearly ready test vehicle pictured here is wearing only minimal camouflage to hide some last few details, but also appears to be wearing the M Sport package that will bridge the gap (at least, visually speaking) between the base models and the M4 Gran Coupe that is all but certain to follow.
BMW 3 Series eDrive plug-in hybrid spotted in development
Thu, 06 Feb 2014BMW has shown its commitment to the development of hybrid and electric powertrains in recent years, with vehicles in its ActiveHybrid range, electrics like its BMW ActiveE and range-extended EVs like the i3 and i8. Plug-in hybrid-electric vehicles are clearly top-of-mind for the German automaker. We saw spy shots of the PHEV BMW X5 eDrive prototypes about a year ago, and now our shooters have come through with a 3 Series-bodied version of the technology, as well.
In addition to the obvious "Hybrid Test Vehicle" designation you see on the bodysides of this 3er, we also note that a second 'fuel cap' - presumably hiding the electric charge point - is in evidence. It's a fairly safe assumption that this 3 Series is making use of the same turbocharged four-cylinder engine and electric motor configuration that the X5 eDrive used. In the case of the X5, that meant a top electric-only speed of 75 miles per hour, with a range of just under 20 miles, and 0-62 mph in under 7 seconds. With considerably lighter, compact sedan bodywork clothing the PHEV drivetrain, we'd guess that the 3 Series eDrive could improve on each of those numbers.
