1992 BMW 735i Sedan - Automatic
I haven't driven this car in a year and when I went to use it, it wouldn't start. One garage said the battery was no good, another said the battery was fine so charged it up and the car won't start, the battery has since gone dead. I have been playing around with this car in my driveway(there is no way I am bringing this in to a BMW Dealer for repair!) I just put a new windshield ($350) and replaced the two front tires prior to it being parked ($200). Well.... I don't know what to do with it so thought I would put it up on here and see if I can see if anyone is interested. This is the same type car John Candy drove in Cannonball Run 3! THE MOVIE SPEED ZONE. Check out the video on youtube! (actually, the front drivers seat is SO BEAT UP, I am wondering if this isn't THE car!) I'm not sure at this moment if the car in the movie was silver or gold. This is a SUPER CAR and was a dream when it ran/drove. I am sad to see it go but it is deteriorating sitting in my driveway. These cars are actually starting to climb in value due to collector interest. Selling for parts or repair/restoration. I have taken it apart somewhat trying to figure out what's wrong but I am not a mechanic and well.... I haven't put those things back together though nothing is missing. I went online and someone said to replace the cluster, another guy said it's the voltage regulator.... I haven't been able to get the regulator out of it yet to see if that's what it might be. Needless to say, this is a nice project or good parts car that ran prior to sitting in my driveway and now need it gone as soon as possible. (it's insured/registered etc). I really would hate to see this car scrapped as it is very pretty and would like to see it saved. When this car was running, people would compliment me on it and they thought I was made of money! lol I have to admit it seems to me it did get me a considerable amount of business during the short time I drove it. Has a lot of miles (should be a little over 215K, I can't check it right now due to the current state but I don't think it's much more than that) but mostly to the beach and back. It's starting to get some rust from sitting so please come take care of her! (the car fax score looks better than most I've seen!) Oh.... the only other issue I can think of is the front end needs a bushing replaced. (a common issue for these heavy beamers) But the tranny and motor were operating just fine when it was parked. The windshield and tires were put on 2 days prior to this car being parked as well. I just paid $135 in excise tax. (the town says this car is worth $5,000!) From what the parts go for on ebay, someone could make a lot of money on this car parting it out. (the tranny alone is worth the asking price!) If you find my price too high, please make an offer. BMW X4 reclaims dash of utility with Clemson student project [w/videos]
Wed, 06 Aug 2014BMW seems willing to exploit every automotive niche it can find with creations like the four-door, 'crossover coupe' X4 and X6. Of course, these designs come with a compromise. That svelte fastback means that they just can't haul as much cargo as a more traditional, boxier hatchback. Fortunately, students at Clemson University's International Center for Automotive Research might have a novel solution: the engineering graduate program has turned the crossover into a unique pickup.
Dubbed Deep Orange 4 concept, this functional prototype has an enclosed cargo area with a sliding glass panel that opens up to expose a pickup bed if more room is needed. Think of it as the GMC Envoy XUV of German crossovers. This isn't just an X4 with its roof hacked off, though. The students actually started with an X3 and grafted on this top later in addition to the two barn doors for access to the bed.
To make this project even more impressive, this pickup-crossover could conceivably be produced. The graduate students conducted an in-plant analysis of BMW's manufacturing abilities and went back to the university to create a plan for a low-volume vehicle that could actually be built. "The students working on this phase of the project did an excellent job of keeping costs down while finding optimal integration opportunities," said Rich Morris, vice president of assembly at BMW Manufacturing, in the university's release.
2014 BMW 328d rated at 32/45 mpg
Wed, 31 Jul 2013BMW still hasn't released official fuel economy numbers for its diesel-powered 2014 328d, but now, those mileage ratings have been posted on the EPA's FuelEconomy.gov website. As expected, the 328d is quite an efficient little machine, with the rear-wheel-drive sedan good for 32 miles per gallon in the city and 45 mpg highway. That even bests the 30/42 mpg of the smaller Volkswagen Jetta TDI.
The last time BMW offered a diesel 3 Series in our market, it was the six-cylinder 335d, which - while mighty quick and excellent to drive - was only offered as a rear-wheel-drive sedan and was rated at 23 mpg city and 36 mpg highway. For 2014, BMW will offer the 328d with optional xDrive all-wheel drive, though that reduces the fuel economy numbers to 31/43 mpg. Beyond that, the BMW will even sell you a 328d xDrive wagon, which nets the same 31/43 mpg rating, according to FuelEconomy.gov.
Look for the 2014 BMW 328d to hit dealerships this fall, and when it launches, it will be the only diesel offering in its class (until the next Mercedes-Benz C-Class arrives, anyway). Lexus and Infiniti will offer hybrid versions of the IS and Q50, respectively, but we've always had a taste for torque, and the 328d's 2.0-liter engine with 180 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of twist shouldn't disappoint.
BMW-Toyota joint sports car project is on like Donkey Kong
Mon, 30 Dec 2013It's official - there will be a jointly developed sports car from BMW and Toyota. While the two auto giants signed a Memorandum of Understanding that pledged to pursue "joint development of architecture and components for a future sports vehicle" back in June of 2012, in the interim, it has remained unclear how those plans had been progressing. BMW has finally officially confirmed that the German and Japanese manufacturers will be codeveloping a pair of sports cars in addition to pursuing other disciplines including fuel cell systems and lightweight technologies.
"We have agreed on a joint architecture for a sports car. What is important is that there will be two different vehicles that are authentic to the two brands," BMW Development Chief Herbert Diess told Germany's Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Reuters is reporting. This is a very, very big step for both brands, but now the speculation can officially begin as to what the products of this agreement will look like.
There's ample reason to believe that the BMW-Toyota tie up will result in a Supra successor based on comments made by the chief engineer of the GT86/FR-S program, Tatsuya Tada, back in August. Follow that with a rumor from earlier this month that Toyota could debut a Supra concept car at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show later this month, and we could be seeing the fruits of this partnership sooner rather than later.
