Up for auction with a LOW RESERVE is my daughter's 325ix. She has moved out and gotten another car and I am selling her BMW. Here are the basics and some photos, please e-mail with any questions but the point of this for me is to SELL THE CAR. If you know about these cars, they are apparently rare with AWD, 2 doors and a 5-speed.

I bought the car in May of 2010 with approximately 60000 miles from the original owner, who kept it at his country house for occasional drives on weekends. It has no replaced or repainted parts and a clean Carfax indicating no accident damage. It is 25 years old and is all-original, original paint, interior, wheels, lights, etc. NO MODIFICATIONS from stock. It has been well mainained and just drives beautifully. I have driven it a few times since my daughter left it with me and all mechanical systems work great; engine, transmission, brakes, steering, clutch, lights, horn, radio, etc., etc., great sporty exhaust note. It loves the area between 3-4000 rpm's. I would not hesitate to drive this car any distance. Passed CT emissions test 5/18/12, next due 5/18/14.

The interior is remarkable for a 25 year old car. It has sport seats with the moveable front cushion and a sport steering wheel. The driver's seat has some slight wrinkling from use but no wear, holes or cracks. No cracks in dash or holes in anything. The exterior is very nice, AND ORIGINAL. It has a few small repaired rust spots, the size of a quarter or less, and some rock chips but no damage. The windshield has 2 small c-shaped marks in the glass, not chipped but maybe like a golf ball hit the windshield. This is not in the driver's view and not spreading so I left it alone. It needs a new BMW logo on the hood, the original one is faded out completely.

Here's what it needs: Remember, this is a 25 year old car, in remarkably good condition, runs and drives great! You can just keep on going. However, if you wanted to do a complete makeover, here's what I found that could use attention: Probably refinish the wheels, they are showing their age. New tires while you're at it. Current tires are O.K. but due.The power antenna works, goes up all the way but goes down only as far as in the photos, and I didn't want to force it. A/C works, but is not very cold, could be serviced or recharged. I opened the power sunroof for the photos, but it's really slow. I can try some lubricant on the tracks and see if that improves it. I don't think it's been opened since last Summer. ABS light is on, haven't done anything about it. That little computer thingy on the right side of the dash lights up but doesn't seem to work. That's about it. I'm sure if you looked really hard you could find more faults with it because it's how old? Right, 25 years old!

Buyer is responsible for transportation. The car can be driven away with proper plates and documentation or I can assist truck/transport drivers ACCORDING TO MY SCHEDULE. I have a job, travel sometimes and am a busy person, so this car is being sold here on E-Bay to the highest bidder rather than take weeks or months with Autotrader or Hemmings.

Please e-mail and ask questions, if you are nearby you are welcome to come see and drive the car (according to my schedule) before bidding. This car will be sold to the highest bidder at the end of the auction. If you are unsure, don't bid. If you don't have the money, don't bid on it. If you live far away and haven't thought about shipping, don't bid. I am trying to sell the car and not relist it.

Thanks for looking - and bidding!!

2015 BMW i8: Autoblog Technology of the Year finalist

Wed, 19 Nov 2014

Traditionally, nominations for the Autoblog Technology of the Year award are earned for specific developments - a new-think powertrain, a uniquely developed material, a groundbreaking smartphone app, or what have you. In the case of BMW's marvelous i8, it so bristles with novel applied sciences and fresh features that we broke with tradition and nominated the entire car.
We just couldn't help ourselves. Oh, we could've focused on the i8's carbon-fiber monocoque, or its well-resolved plug-in-hybrid powertrain that incorporates a tiny 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine and an electric motor, or its seamless through-the-road all-wheel drive. This is a car that will even have frickin' laser beams for headlights - at least it will for our friends in Europe (and it will in the US, should our legislators ever catch up).

BMW confirms new Mexican plant

Thu, 03 Jul 2014

After over a year of speculation, BMW is finally officially announcing that it's building a factory in Mexico. The new plant will cost the German automaker roughly $1 billion US and will have a capacity of about 150,000 vehicles a year when complete. However, production won't begin there until 2019.
The new factory is being built near the city of San Luis Potosí, Mexico, with plans to employ about 1,500 people. Unfortunately, BMW is still mum about which models it's producing south of the border. Earlier rumors indicated the possibility of the 3 Series, 1 Series and maybe even Mini models there.
BMW says Mexico's multiple free trade agreements are a major factor in the choice of location of the plant. They make it possible for the automaker to ship models more cheaply to North America, parts of South America and the European Union. "The Americas are among the most important growth markets for the BMW Group. We are continuing our strategy of 'production follows the market,'" said Harald Krueger, the board's head of production, in the company's official announcement.

BMW maintenance plan no longer transferrable to 2nd owner

Tue, 12 Aug 2014

One of the best innovations in car buying in recent years is the rise of no-cost scheduled maintenance programs. Many people feel really anxious about taking their car in for service, and these deals help mitigate that somewhat. Obviously, it's not free for automakers to implement the offers, and now BMW is altering the way its four-year, 50,000-mile Maintenance Program works for some owners. "To keep such an offer sustainable we had to make a change," said Kenn Sparks, Manager of Business Communications at BMW North America, to Autoblog via email.
The original person to buy or lease the model isn't going to see any difference, but the program is no longer transferable to a second owner, unless that person is in the owners household. Those people include includes parents, siblings, grandparents and grandchildren, in addition to someone like a spouse or children. The original owner just has to advise BMW of new user. "The program change will affect 2nd owners and for them BMW is introducing an optional full-maintenance product that covers the vehicle up to 100,000 miles," said Sparks.
