Up for auction is my 2009 BMW 335i convertible (retractable hardtop). I special ordered this car new in September 2008 when I was deployed to Iraq through a BMW military sales program and took delivery of it in February 2009 after I got home. As of this posting, the car has 27,879 total miles on the odometer. I have rarely driven this car and what miles are on it are primarily highway miles. This car has always been garaged and has never sat outside for any extended period of time. It has never been smoked in. Absolutely everything on this car functions properly and the interior even still has a new car smell to it. BMW recommends oil changes on this particular model every 18,000 miles, so the oil has only been changed once.

Even with the low mileage it has, I've managed to pick up a few blemishes along the way. There is a small nick on the roof of the car on the driver side that was caused by a rock kicked up by an 18-wheeler. The underside of the plastic front bumper on the driver side has a small dent - I'm not sure what I hit to cause it. It could probably just be popped out. Both of these blemishes are not noticeable to the casual observer and you really have to be looking for them to see them. Additionally, I ran through a pretty pothole at one point that caused a very small panel cover on the back bumper to pop out - I just never bothered to replace it. That same pothole also caused the steering wheel to become slightly off-centered. I had the techs at a BMW dealership in Temple, TX fix this, though, so it's fine now and I haven't had any problem with it since (the steering mechanism is computer controlled, there's no traditional steering column in these cars).

The car is available for viewing in Woodstock, GA just north of Atlanta. No joy rides. I will not disclose the reserve price, but it is slightly below the KBB price. There is no warranty, expressed or implied. Local pickup is preferable. I will not coordinate for transportation. However, I'm happy to make myself available in order to ensure the car is picked up by whatever transportation company you decide to hire.

A $1,000 deposit is due via PayPal within 24 hours of purchase and the remaining balance is due within 7 days. I will only accept a certified cashier's check/money order. I will not accept personal checks. I have the title in hand and will express mail it to you once your payment clears. I will not release the car to whomever you hire for transportation until I have received your payment in full and it clears.

Car companies may need to start curbing model proliferation

Looking at the current automotive landscape, especially from German makers, you quickly get the impression that less definitely isn't more. BMW alone offers its 3 Series platform in practically every segment possible, including the regular sedan and 4 Series Gran Coupe, which would seem to be direct competitors. Porsche might be the winner, though, with 20 different variants of the 911 listed for sale on its US website. However, some of this model madness might be reaching an end as companies begin cutting back spending or shifting money to other priorities.
According to Yahoo Finance, the offerings from the German automakers are up 25 percent over the past three years to over 200 models in Europe. The peak is expected to come around 2018 at 230 separate vehicles, according to consulting company PwC.
Amazingly, BMW, which is among the poster children for this model explosion, might be changing its tune. "I'm sure there will be points in the future where we look at certain cars and say, 'Maybe we need to think differently now,'" said head of sales Ian Robertson in an interview, according to Yahoo Finance. The statement certainly sounds shocking coming from a company rumored to have 23 front-wheel-drive vehicles all using a single platform on the way.

The stream of segment-busting BMW variants is showing no signs of letting up, and with the latest addition now upon us, questions have been circulating as to whether the Bavarian automaker would do an M version of the new X4 crossover. The jury may still be out on that proposition, but the latest intel suggests that, while a full-on X4 M may not be in the cards, a next-best-thing X4 M40i is in the works. And that appears to be what we're looking at in this fresh batch of spy shots.
Spotted for the first time undergoing testing in Germany, this X4 is tipped to be the next addition to the M Performance line that's already given us near-boiling models like the M135i and M235i on the one hand and the diesel-powered M550d, X5 M50d and X6 M50d on the other. Power in this case is tipped to come from the same 3.0-liter turbo six as the upcoming M2, producing between 360 and 380 horsepower.
Unlike the current top-of-that-specific-line X4 35i, which has two tailpipes on one side, this partially-camouflaged prototype has one pipe protruding from each corner of the rear bumper, but looks like it could easily accommodate twin pipes on both sides. Expect commensurate suspension, brake, rolling stock, aero and trim upgrades to come as part of the package, though they likely won't be quite as substantial as those applied to the X5 M and X6 M.
