I am selling our 2007 BMW 335i sedan. It was purchased new for my wife at Center BMW in Van Nuys and all service has been performed there. This vehicle has only 37,200 miles on it and is in excellent condition. I has both the Sport Package and Premium Packages, and is equipped with BMW's DSG gearbox equivalent. It may be driven either in full automatic, sport automatic, or shift manually in sport mode with either the paddle shifters mounted on the wheel or with the console shifter. It has a fresh set of Michelin Pilot Sport ZP tires on it (a HUGE improvement over the factory Bridgestones at a cost of $1600). It was serviced by Center BMW two weeks ago where, in addition to the normal service, it received a fresh set of rear brakes and a coolant flush. I have the CA Pink Slip in hand, and the tags are paid through August 2014. The car has never been in a accident, though there is a small chip (not crack) in the windshield about 3/32". The chip is not visible from the driver's seat. The front bumper was replaced when some ninny backed into it at low speed while it was parked.  This resulted in a scratch, but BMW insisted on replacing the entire bumper. It was painted to match and does so perfectly. Aside from some dirt on the floor mats, the car is like new. BMW refers to the color as Sparkling Graphite, and the interior is grey leather. This is a very quick and great driving car. It actually has better driving dynamics than my C6 Corvette. There few items of any concern: the aforementioned chip in the windshield and the passenger seat airbag sensor, which every six months or so will give a false seatbelt warning light. It's not something that worries me, nor does it happen with anything like regular frequency. At some point, it will require front brakes, the service technician mentioning that they are in service limits but would need to be done some unspecified time in the future. I had the vehicle smogged at the time of the license renewal (7/17/2013) and the certificate is good for title transfer for 60 days. My wife passed away last year, and I just haven't had the heart to sell it. However, I have four cars and college tuition to pay for my daughter, so something's gotta give. I have set a reserve on the car equal to what CarMax has offered me for it (substantially less than the BIN price). If it doesn't clear that, to CarMax she goes and somebody can pay $22,000 plus for her.The car is available for pickup only in Sherman Oaks/Van Nuys (91401). I will not ship. I will deal only with principals, and payment is to be in cash or cashier's check. If paid with cashier's check, I will hold the title until funds clear and mail it to the new owner.  This is your chance to own an extremely low mileage 335 that has been babied it's entire life. Included are the original books and manuals in the original case, the factory tool set, and the DVD set included at the time of sale. I doubt you can find one cleaner. Please, responsible bidders only: it's expensive to sell cars on eBay, and especially so if you have to list it multiple times due to deadbeats. Thanks for looking.

BMW M4 sheds some camouflage for latest test run

Fri, 15 Mar 2013

Last time we saw the upcoming BMW M4 out testing, it was heavily clad with camouflage and decidedly homely looking (as most early development mules are). But in this latest set of photos, the M3 coupe successor has started to come into its own skin, and we're seeing a shape more closely akin to that of a rendering we brought you a few months back.
Unsurprisingly, the M4 coupe looks very similar to the 4 Series Concept that BMW debuted at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year. And while non-M version of the 4er will likely look a bit more sedate, these spy shots clearly show an aggressive front fascia, large wheels and the usual quad-exhaust rounding out the rear end.
Naturally, the M3 sedan will launch before this M4 coupe (and convertible), and powertrain details are still unclear as of this writing. We understand that the current M3's naturally aspirated V8 will be axed in favor of some sort of turbocharged six-cylinder engine, and we've heard plenty of rumors as to what, exactly, it might be, but we have yet to hear any official confirmation.

BMW looking to fix i3 acceleration problem uncovered by Consumer Reports

Fri, 10 Oct 2014

The BMW i3 has been hailed in some quarters as the future of electric mobility, what with its innovative carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic body and commitment to sustainable materials wherever possible. The modernist little hatch is even available with a 650cc two-cylinder gas engine with 34 horsepower to act as a range-extender for those who want it. However, that optional engine might have a drawback - at least for the moment.
Consumer Reports brought the problem to light when one of its drivers was behind the wheel of an i3 using the range-extender. When the driver attempted to pass another vehicle on a rolling, two-lane road, the BMW suddenly had no power to accelerate - a scary situation. CR started examining the car and found something pretty shocking: After driving at a constant speed for a while without any regenerative braking in range-extended mode, acceleration to 60 miles per hour plummeted from about 9 seconds normally to a staggering 27 to 40 seconds in their testing.
A BMW spokesperson told CR that it knows about the problem and has a fix coming next spring that also works on current models. The upgrade includes a state of charge indicator, a warning about loss of power and uses the car's navigation to boost the battery before driving on rolling terrain. It is not clear if the severe power deficiency will also eventually result in a recall.

Company car offers in decline, but not at The Cheesecake Factory [w/poll]

Sat, 22 Jun 2013

As businesses look to keep high-level employees happy, it seems that use of company cars can still be an effective method, although fewer companies are employing it. According to Businessweek, only about 25 percent of companies offer company vehicles as a perk, while less than half give allowances for employees to use their personal vehicles for work purposes.
The report says that one business still in the practice of handing out company cars is The Cheesecake Factory, which offers the benefit to top managers. And we're not talking about some econobox, either. The article indicates the restaurant chain hands out BMWs on a three-year basis - although the company's own report says that the type of vehicle "varies with the executive's level."
Still, we mostly agree with the article's conclusion that money is the best way to keep employees or attract new ones, even if a corporate car is a big perk. What do you think? Let us know, in the poll below, whether a company car could sway you to work for a certain company (not just the Cheesecake factory, where the "Glamburgers" portion of the menu alone is enough to keep a guy hanging around).
