The car has been an overall joy. Loved driving every minute of it and put many hours into fixing and modifying it.

Car is Black Sapphire Metallic with Grey interior. Mostly aluminum trim on the inside, with some wood touches.

Bads:
-Got in one significant wreck dealing 7k worth of damage to the front end. FULLY REPAIRED
-Car was egged at one point, causing minor chipping to paint. Paint was touched up poorly and still needs to be buffed down. (2 spots on drivers side, 1 on passenger)
-There is some strange marring on the driver's door. I have never know where it came from, but it is there.
-Roof is damaged from me running my bike (on rack) into the garage door. See pics. Damage includes two dents with some more crappy touch up jobs.
-The hood was shipped to me and suffered major shipping damage. Hood should be replaced, but I have yet to find a used one to replace it with. See pictures. Bent front end, curled edges, and other dents.
-2 minor chips in the front windshield
-Minimal service records as most of the work was done on my own. I don't trust mechanic shops as much as I do myself.
-Although it does have a brand new passenger headlight, the driver headlight is heavily marred. I have attempted to fix it with no luck. I will continue to attempt to fix the headlight before selling it. On the positive side, NO condensation!

2015 BMW i8 sets everyone's tongues wagging in Northern Michigan

Fri, 31 Oct 2014

Like few other cars we can remember, people want to talk about the 2015 BMW i8. Drive one, and you'll soon find out what we mean. They stop you at gas stations. They accost you in Walgreen's parking lots. They stream out of neighborhood bars, beers in hand.
At least, that was our experience this week during Autoblog's Technology of the Year testing. We had the pleasure of driving the plug-in hybrid BMW sports car up to and around Petoskey, MI, a resort town where seeing such exotics is rare enough, let alone in the off season. It made for some interesting conversations - so we began writing down some of the comments the butterfly-doored coupe inspired. Here's a sampling:
"Wanna race for pinks? I'll go easy on you." - Acne-covered teenage pizza delivery driver in a sad-looking Ford Taurus parked at a Valero gas station near Grayling (which incidentally didn't actually have gas).

The Homer to contest 24 Hours of LeMons

Thu, 27 Jun 2013

It's finally happened. A 24 Hours of LeMons team has built the definitive interpretation of The Homer from The Simpsons for competition in an upcoming race. As you may recollect, The Homer is the fictional car designed by Homer Simpson for his brother's car company. Designed with a separate compartment for screaming children and other Homer-centric goodies, the animated machine bankrupted its parent company and put Homer's brother out of a job. Now we get to watch it race other crap cans as it tackles Southern California's Buttonwillow Raceway on June 29. Scott Chamberlain, Kris Linquist, Reid Conti, Ben Reilly and Mike Yepes will helm the machine, and Jeff Herman serves as the team's creative director.
The racer is the latest incarnation of a well-abused BMW 3 Series. The team campaigned the same E30 under the "Prickstine" banner as a Chrysler Imperial tribute and "Porcubimmer," the latter being a riff on the ever-popular joke about the difference between porcupines and BMW models. Never gets old. You can check out a video of the finished Homer below, and be sure to like the team on Facebook to see updates from the race. Now, about that Canyonero...

BMW readying impressive track-focused M Power App

Thu, 06 Jun 2013

There are a lot of questionable automotive apps that people put on their smartphones these days, but BMW has created what could be one of the most useful and integrated car apps ever. The new M Power App, which will be available this summer only for Apple iPhones, allows BMW owners a whole new way to record their performance on the street or on a track. During the launch of the recent BMW M6 Gran Coupe, BimmerPost was able to get a full demonstration of how this new app works.
Far more involved than the current M Power Meter, the M Power App records data from in-car sensors and acts as a telemetry tool to allow drivers to see how they did on a particular track. Aside from an overlay on a track map showing acceleration and braking applications as well as head-to-head comparisons, the app also shows a line graph of everything from brake and throttle inputs to g-force, fuel mileage and engine speed. A small visual on the screen also shows steering angle, and lap times and speeds can all be stored as well. The data can even be shared with others, whether for bragging rights or instruction purposes.
This app works on any newer BMW equipped with the BMW Apps option, but the phone must be tethered to the car and the data understandably cannot be viewed while driving. Scroll down for the video demonstration recorded recently at Austin's Circuit of the Americas.
