Up for sale is my 1996 BMW 328is. It obviously is an older BMW with some mileage, however does run and drive well. It just had some major work done at 200,000 miles including a new clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, slave cylinder, front wheel bearing hub on the passenger side, rear driver wheel bearing and complete front and rear brake pads. The car also had a new center support bearing installed on the drive shaft when the clutch was installed. There is minor rust starting on the passenger side lower door. Interior is decent, but has normal rips and tears in the driver seat. It has seat covers on the seats now. The head liner is coming loose by the sunroof, would be and easy fix with contact spray. It has a custom muffler on in which is a little louder than stock, but I do have the original muffler for the car as well. The car starts right up and runs excellent and drives like it should. The car is not perfect, but the price reflects that. I also have an aftermarket computer installed in the car which eliminates the common BMW EWS security issues. It is a reprogrammed factory unit with a warranty. The computer also improves fuel economy and horsepower. The factory spoiler has always been missing since I have owned the car. It is also missing the passenger side fog light. The tires were just replaced. This is a great buy for someone looking so get an awesome head turner and BMW at a great price. BMW i creates high-design solar charging carport
Fri, 09 May 2014With the first deliveries of the i3 under way, and the recent i8 press launch, the marketing push in the US for the BMW electric sub-brand has begun. These i vehicles are supposed to have a completely different feel from the rest of the brand's lineup. To complement their earth-friendly ethos, the Bavarian company commissioned BMW Group DesignworksUSA in California to create a solar carport concept that could keep the models sustainably topped up on power. It premiered alongside the i8 in Los Angeles at the electric sports coupe's media launch.
At first glance, the BMW i Solar Carport Concept looks like a pergola from a winery or a well-groomed garden, but like the i vehicles, the deeper you look, the more high-tech features there are. The sides feature carbon elements in a similar way that the i3 and i8 have a carbon fiber-reinforced plastic body. Bamboo forms the uprights because its quick-growing nature makes it rather sustainable, and the solar panels are strung along the top to harness energy.
Obviously the sun can't provide all of the energy that the electric cars need, and a BMW Wallbox Pro charger is also connected to the power grid as a supplement. It includes a readout telling users the amount of solar energy versus municipal electricity it's using.
Audi leading rival BMW in worldwide luxury sales race
Tue, 11 Mar 2014If you thought competition among the German luxury automakers was hot before, it looks like things are just getting started. For the first two months of the year, Audi has sold more cars than BMW worldwide by just 383 cars.
Audi claims to have sold 242,400 vehicles through February, up 9.3 percent from last year, compared to 242,017 units from BMW, up 8.9 percent, in the same period. While the advantage is tiny, its implications could be huge because Bimmer has been the leader in the premium car segment for the last nine consecutive years. Mercedes-Benz lags behind them somewhat at 229,630 vehicles through February. According to Bloomberg, at this time last year Audi had sold 429 fewer cars than BMW.
The growth is all part of Volkswagen Group's goal to become the world's largest automaker. It currently ranks in second when its heavy truck businesses are considered. The German automotive giant also wants to be the world's leading premium carmaker. "Competition in the premium segment is more intense than ever," said Audi CEO Rupert Stadler to Bloomberg.
BMW i3 misses top Euro safety rating [w/videos]
Wed, 27 Nov 2013The Euro NCAP just tested a recent batch of new cars including the 2014 BMW i3, and the EV Bimmer scored less-than-perfect results. Though not horrible, BMW's all-electric/range-extended i3 was given a four-star (out of five possible) crash rating due to concerns with front-occupant whiplash and side-impact protection.
Based on the crash results, the BMW provided suitable protection for occupants in the frontal, side barrier, pedestrian and child-seat tests, but the i3 was tripped up when it came to the more severe side pole test and the rear-impact test. The pole test showed protection to the chest of the test dummy was "weak," and the front seats only provided "marginal" protection against whiplash for front passengers.
