This is a great-running 1995 BMW 325i Convertible with M3 components. Mechanically, this car is in great shape, and runs excellent. It corners like it's on rails. It is an automatic with dove-grey leather interior, and after-market carbon-fiber front fenders. Clear title. Approximately 165,000 miles. This would make a nice gift :)

I don't want to sell this car... but it looks like I need to buy something else for work.

When I bought this car, I was told it was an M3. It has an M3 tag on the trunk, and M3 labels on the door sills. However, as I researched the car, I found that BMW did not make a convertible in 1995. A VIN search shows that this is a 325i E36 series. I was told by a BMW car dealership that this is a 325i with a "M3 Appearance Package". Whatever. It is a pretty cool car, especially with the top down! This coupe seats four people comfortably. Trunk is pretty big for such a small car.

Let me give you a list of the Good, then the Bad.

THE GOOD:
- Mechanically sound -Engine, Driveline, all in excellent operating condition. Brakes work great. Acceleration is smooth and seamless. No exhaust leaks.
- Brand new low-profile performance tires. Probably less than 2000 miles on these tires. I believe it has 17" wheels. These tires stick to the road on corners!
- Carbon fiber front fenders. They should probably be painted black to match the car, or they could be left as is and kept polished. These were installed before I got the car. They add a great appearance to the car - very sporty - and are also very light.
- Interior is in good condition, with the exception of the drivers door panel. Leather seats - no major tears on any of the seats. Leather cleans up nice. Dove great seats. A few of the threads on the leather show a bit of separation, but could be tightened up if desired at an upholstery shop. There is one missing plastic panel near the floor on the passengers side - covers the speaker. The carpet is in decent shape - though there is a bit of darkening on the floor of the back seats as it has gotten damp in the past. I always dried it out as quickly as possible whenever this happens.
- Gauges, lights, electric windows, all function. CD player plays, though the speaker wiring is not all hooked up. This car has premium sound with lots of speakers, but whoever had it before me was messing with things and didn't finish.
- Auto trans with manual over-ride option for cornering. Very cool.
- It is a BMW convertible!

THE BAD:
- Driver's inside door panel needs to be replaced. I can find these on Ebay - they range from $150 to $300 each, or can be found in pairs.
- Convertible top issues: Electric up/down does not function. However, it is very easy to manually lift and lower the top, so I haven't worried about that. Motor or switch may have problems. Top should be replaced. The outside looks okay, though there are a few seems that are separating and I don't think it is waterproof anymore. The liner definitely needs to be replaced as it is hanging in a few places, though it is not torn up. You can purchase a top kit online - price ranges from $100 - $500 depending on components you replace.
- Weather stripping needs to be replaced in top storage compartment. I try not to leave this car parked in the rain for long periods of time -
- Driver's side door moulding needs to be installed. I have the moulding strip. But the last owner tried to use Goo to put it on and that didn't work. Needs to be correctly installed.
- Alloy wheels are bent - this is annoying, but not that big of an issue to me. At low speeds, somewhere around 25 mph, the car will sometimes shimmy. However, at highway speeds and at high speeds, there is no vibration. When I had Les Schwab install the new tires, they told me about the rims. I chose not to replace them at that time because I wanted to research BMW style rims and really don't notice it too much.
- Heater fan intermittent. This is really the only electronic issue - AC works and so does heat. But the fan blows intermittently. I replaced the switch assembly, but that didn't fix it, so the fan itself may need to be replaced.

- Minor other electric/switch issues - Coupe/Convertible models have a switch in the door that senses when the door is open and rolls the window down slightly to get it out of the weather stripping - these switches need to be replaced. There is a missing rocker switch in the dash - I think it may be for the seat heaters as they don't work. The electric adjustments for the side mirrors aren't working - the wiring needs attention. The CD player was not installed professionally and moves around slightly.

BMW X1 testing is underway

Thu, 10 Oct 2013

It was just a few weeks ago that we got our first glimpse of the next-generation BMW X1, riding around on a flatbed. Now, we have the first batch of images of the small crossover moving under its own steam.
Like the previous round of photos, BMW's psychedelic camouflage is on hand to obscure sheetmetal details, but our intrepid spies still managed to discover a bit about the new X1. It's internal code-name will be F48, and it will sit on the same platform as the next-generation Mini and the BMW 1 Series GT. And for those keeping track at home, those are both front-drive platforms.
The reasoning for the X1's new layout, though, is understandable. Front-wheel drive is more space efficient and affordable, which are kind of big deals to customers. The next X1 won't be limited to its front wheels, though, as BMW's xDrive system is almost a certainty on higher-end trims.

2016 X6 M brings the power at LA show

Wed, 19 Nov 2014

BMW tore the cover off the second generation 2016 X6 M Wednesday at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
BMW tuned the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 to push out 567 horsepower, up from the last model's 555 hp. Torque also leaps to 553 pound feet, compared with the previous output of 500 lb-ft. The V8 is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, which swaps in for the old six-speed. This potent powertrain allows the crossover to hit 60 miles per hour in about four seconds.
The X6, which features slightly more dramatic styling and an angled rear roofline, debuted alongside the more conventionally styled 2016 BMW X5 M at the LA show.

Giles Taylor succeeds Ian Cameron as head of Rolls-Royce design

Thu, 28 Jun 2012

Back in the day, a Rolls-Royce looked pretty much the same as a Bentley, but with a different grille. Once BMW took over Rolls-Royce, however, it was faced with the challenge of visually separating itself from its former sister brand. And most would agree that it did so pretty well. But its cars have looked pretty much the same ever since. What Rolls-Royce needs, then, is a bit of a design shake-up. And that's just what this latest appointment could bring.
After a baker's dozen years as design director at Rolls-Royce (and twenty years designing for the BMW Group altogether), Ian Cameron is retiring from his post. In his place, Rolls-Royce has named Giles Taylor as its new director of design. In his new capacity, Taylor will report directly to BMW Group chief designer Adrian van Hooydonk, and be responsible for all design matters related to the Rolls-Royce brand and its products.
Taylor was promoted to the role from his previous position as head of exterior design for the marque, a position he's held for barely more than a year. We'll be eagerly watching to see what the veteran British car designer has in store for the future of Rolls-Royce. In the meantime you can read the full announcement below.
