Drivetrain - Euro S50B30 bored out to a 3.2 with Group N cams. Dyno’d 271 WHP with hot air intake in the summer. It has since been fitted with a Castro Motorsports CAI. - Custom chip - Motor rebuilt by Chris Fletcher – Chris was one of the master engine builders at Team PTG and now runs Fletcher Made Horsepower. Motor has less than 7K miles on rebuild. Chris said running stand alone would easily free up another 50HP. - Custom braided oil cooler lines with AN fittings - Custom SS 3 inch exhaust with V Band clamps from the downpipe back. No cats. Still wired up for cockpit actuated exhaust dump (open exhaust). - E36 M3 5 speed - E34 M5 3.8L clutch (4 years old, less than 10K miles) - Custom driveshaft - 3.46LSD from an E28. Diff rebuilt by Guten parts last year and is tight! - E30 M3 finned diff cover - Custom cold airbox by Castro Motorsport Suspension - Complete E30 M3 5 lug conversion - Fresh J Stock suspension from Turner Motorsports with 2 DE’s on it. - Adjustable rear subframe by Castro Motorsports - Vorschlag adjustable front camber plates - Reinforced, big sway bars - Rebuilt E46 ZHP steering rack less than 1 year old Brakes - E30 M3 front and rear with Hawk HT10 pads (front pads are fresh) - Manual setup with E30 M3 master cylinder. I like the feel although it does take **some** getting used to - Turner front backing plates for cooling hoses - Custom front cooling hoses and SS brake lines - ABS delete Interior - Recaro SRDs - Safety Devices FULL cage - G Force 5 point harnesses with functional OEM 3 point belts for street driving - Alpina digital vent gauge cluster for oil pressure, coolant temp, and volts - E30 M3 tach for oil temp - Fire extinguisher mounted under driver's seat - Machined throttle pedal with extra wide housing for heel / toe - All gauges and electrics work except passenger rear window - Working A/C! Wheel / Tires Comes with 3 sets of wheels and tires: - Set 1: E38 Basketweaves with fresh BF Goodrich G Force tires for street driving (tires are almost new) - Set 2: E30 M3 Basketweaves with Hoosier R6s for track (2 events) - Set 3: E30 M3 Basketweaves with Hoosier A6s for autoX (1 event) Exterior - Shadowline trim by Guten - Side mirrors professionally repainted and matched - New rockers from BMW professionally installed with factory undercoating - Mostly original paint and body work - Rear fenders rolled by me to accommodate 225/45/15 Hoosiers - Fog light deletes Overall This car just flat out rips. It surprises on the street, on the track, and at car meets when the hood is opened. P car guys hate this car at the track and can't figure out why an old BMW sedan is still attacking their mirrors on the straights. Everything has been painstakingly sorted with the goal of being able to use as a street car that can be driven and to / from track events.... which is exactly what I did for the last 7 years. It's been dead reliable and has never left me stranded, and that includes 11 hour round trips to Watkins Glen and back. The suspension feels great, J stock fresh and is surprisingly forgiving on the street while keeping the car planted on the track. The engine.... the engine.... not sure what to say, other than holy hell!!!! At WOT, it sounds truly evil. Brakes stand up well to track abuse with stock E30 M3 hardware and custom cooling hoses / backing plates and although they're not what I would call "P car" good, they're miles better than the 4 lug "BBK" garbage I tried. Cosmetically, this is NOT a track beater. It was washed, waxed and given the same amount of love I lavish on my other street cars. That said, if you are looking for a concourse show car, this is not it. The driver's rear door has a small amount of rust on the bottom edge as does the rear valence under the bumper beneath the battery tray (typical E30 spot). The rockers were still decent but I had them professionally replaced anyway with new BMW ones. Overall, the paint shines well and looks very, very presentable. The interior is also NOT your typical stripped, track day special. It was left mostly intact with the exception of the rear upper seat and retains stock 3 point safety belts for that quick trip to the grocery store. Working AC blows cold and is a huge asset on a hot summer day after a day at the track. I have STACKS of invoices and receipts from my ownership as well as the PO going back to the original owner. Most of the work was performed by Guten Parts. I take ridiculously good care of my cars. I am OCD about maintenance, getting the car up to operating temperature, and avoiding short trips (less than 5 miles), especially in colder weather. There’s probably a lot more I’m missing. I have well over $40K into this. I need to sell to fund my racing dreams. This is probably the best set-up E30 for both track and street driving. I’ve driven to / from DE’s for the last 7 years and never had an issue. Very well sorted car that benefited from years of tuning and set-up. Video & Pictures

BMW i3 misses top Euro safety rating [w/videos]
Wed, 27 Nov 2013The Euro NCAP just tested a recent batch of new cars including the 2014 BMW i3, and the EV Bimmer scored less-than-perfect results. Though not horrible, BMW's all-electric/range-extended i3 was given a four-star (out of five possible) crash rating due to concerns with front-occupant whiplash and side-impact protection.
Based on the crash results, the BMW provided suitable protection for occupants in the frontal, side barrier, pedestrian and child-seat tests, but the i3 was tripped up when it came to the more severe side pole test and the rear-impact test. The pole test showed protection to the chest of the test dummy was "weak," and the front seats only provided "marginal" protection against whiplash for front passengers. Scroll down to watch two videos released by the Euro NCAP of the i3 being tested.
Check out 90 years of BMW Motorrad in 90 seconds
Tue, 12 Mar 2013After ninety years in business and first-to-market motorcycle innovations like the one-piece 'tunnel' crankcase, hydraulically dampened front forks and full fairings, as well as that trademark boxer engine, BMW Motorrad is celebrating its nonagenarian status with a video: You can follow the ride on BMW motorcycles from 1923 to now in just 90 seconds.
Okay, so there's more than a video - some anniversary-themed bikes and a new retro boxer model celebrating the R 32 "airhead' from 1923 also commemorate the occasion. But you can start with the video, and that's below.
Ford, Toyota clean up in Best Car For The Money Awards
Fri, 22 Feb 2013The U.S. News Best Cars for the Money Awards picks winners by looking at the average transaction price, five-year total cost of ownership, the regard a car has from the automotive press, reliability figures from J.D. Power and Associates and safety data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The result, according to the magazine, is "the best combination of critical acclaim and long-term value."
Ford nabbed six of the 21 categories that received awards this year, the Focus, Fusion, Fusion Hybrid, Taurus, Escape and Edge getting trophies. Toyota and its Lexus and Scion sub-brands took another five, the Tacoma and Tundra owning the two categories given to pickup trucks. The other ten awards were split between Honda with three, Buick with two, and one each for Subaru, BMW, Hyundai, Chevrolet and Mazda.
