Low owner CA car - I believe I'm the third owner - that will make a good basis for a restoration. Please note I'm not a professional mechanic nor do I play one on TV.
Basically, I have too many vehicles and not enough time to look after them so it's time for me to admit to that fact and sell a few.
- Very little rust - it has a little ding on the driver's side rocker panel that is showing a little rust. Doesn't photograph well unfortunately. Other than this area, I haven't found any other rust.
- Two sets of wheels and tires - the OEM wheels with 3 season tires in the pictures and a set of Momo five spokes with Blizzak snows that are one season old
- Had new lower front control arms with bushes fitted by the local BMW specialist last year. If you know anything about ixs, you know that's not a cheap job.
- Electrics work, including the heated seats.
- Original unmolested interior - no cracks in the dash, no speaker holes, still has the original radio and speakers
- Odometer is still working, yay :).
- Drivetrain is in good shape with the two exceptions mentioned below, engine still pulls hard. Currently fitted with a "winter" thermostat (88C) but comes with a stock thermostat, a set of stock headlights, a Peake code reader and a Bentley manual.
- Had new rear lights last year, too
- It's all stock - it even still has the OEM exhaust.
- The Antilock brakes just developed a fault - if the car sat for a while and you start it up, the brake pedal is hard as if the brake booster is defective. Press the brake pedal hard and brake pedal will act normally again (as will the brakes) but the Antilock brake warning light will illuminate. The brakes will need work as they are.
- AWD system is working according to my local BMW specialist, but it doesn't pass the jack test
- It has the usual bolster wear on the drivers seat and split seams on the rear seat. Good used replacement bolsters for the front seat are included.
- A/C doesn't blow cold
- One of the rear shocks is leaking. The shocks look like they're the originals and well past due their sell-by date.
- The previous owner had it resprayed in the stock color, unfortunately it's a cheap paint job and that shows - lots of orange peel and an almost complete absence of gloss.
- It has Euro headlights fitted and they work well (I think they're actually Xenons, but I'm not 100% sure). They're self-levelling headlights and unfortunately the self-levelling mechanism is missing so the headlight aim is rather random. A set of stock ix headlights come with the car, though, but the wiring needs to be reverted to stock.

BMW i3 starts near $35,000; NA first deliveries January 2014
Mon, 08 Jul 2013While in Germany at the first early pre-production drives of the hotly anticipated BMW i3, BMW people finally hinted at a price ballpark. Numbers being tossed around by pundits have actually been pretty close to what BMW is discussing internally - between $35,000 and just over $40,000. We have been assured now that the base price, should one choose to buy and not lease in the Euro zone, is just over 35,000 euro, with some big taxes included in that price. In the US, the starting price for the fully EV plug-in version should be $34,500 or right thereabouts. In addition to new pricing, we've also gotten our best-yet look at the i3, with the freshly uncovered spy shots you see here.
European deliveries begin in November of this year for the fully electric version of the rear-wheel-drive i3 with 168-horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. The e-motor mounted over the rear axle is supplied with energy by the 22-kWh lithium-ion battery pallet under the passenger compartment. Recharging happens in any of three ways: public or personal garage plug-in charge station (garage version not included in the price), the onboard system's Pro Eco mode that adds resistance to the drivetrain in a type of rolling brake energy recuperation, or through the normal brake energy and off-throttle coasting regeneration more common to EVs. Range on a full charge of this drivetrain is said to be upwards of 100 miles under hyper-miling conditions.
Perhaps the best bit of news is that the alternative, range-extending, two-cylinder 600cc engine supplied by BMW Motorrad for the hybrid version of the i3 - mounted in the rear together with the e-motor - will add only 2,000 euros in Europe and about $2,000 in the US. This is a range-doubling solution that could have brought a much higher price gouge, so thank you, BMW. The hybrid e-drive i3 version arrives a couple months after the full-EV launch version. Remember that, unlike the very similar system for the Chevrolet Volt, the system in the i3 supplies no mechanical torque to the driven axle and is only used as a generator (a system BMW first used last year in the 1 Series-based Active ). The US is seen as the clear number one market for the i3.
BMW shows off 435i Coupe with M Performance parts
Sat, 20 Jul 2013Greetings from the famous Circuito do Estoril racetrack in Portugal. We're here to put the 2014 BMW 4 Series coupe through its paces, and we'll have the chance to sample the updated 2014 BMW M5 with its new Competition Pack, as well. But before going out for some hot laps, we took a few minutes to check out this 435i Coupe that's been fitted with a full suite of goodies from the BMW M Performance parts catalog.
Starting with the exterior, carbon fiber bits are the most noticeable additions, with the lightweight material added in the form of a massive front splitter, mirror caps and a rear spoiler. Other visual changes include lightweight 20-inch wheels, a blacked-out grille, and unique M Performance side stripes. No, that's not a shadow you see under the 435i's strong side character line - that's a stripe. Yes, we're serious.
Inside (we couldn't get photos of the interior, sorry!), BMW has added its sport steering wheel with race display, unique M floormats, steel pedals, and a whole mess of carbon fiber and Alcantara trim.
2014 BMW X5 priced from $53,725*
Mon, 24 Jun 2013A month after the official curtain was dropped, BMW has seen fit to release pricing information on its new 2014 X5 crossover. The X5 sDrive35i, which is the first rear-wheel-drive version of the X5, will begin at $53,725 (*including $925 for destination and handling) while the traditional all-wheel-drive X5 xDrive35i will begin at $56,025. Both feature BMW's well-regarded 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo N55 engine with 300 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque.
The 2014 BMW X5 xDrive35d (Have these convoluted names confused you yet?) is priced at $57,525 with its 3.0-liter diesel engine (255 hp and 413 lb-ft), and, finally, the TwinPower Turbo V8-powered X5 xDrive50i (445 hp and 480 lb-ft) will start at $69,125. Buyers looking to customize their X5 experience can choose from the Luxury Line, xLine or M Sport packages, plus Ivory White and Mocha Interior Design Packages. Regardless of which engine is chosen, the X5 will come equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
For comparison, the 2013 X5 xDrive35i started at $48,425. That means the price has increased by over $5,000 despite not including standard all-wheel drive or by $7,600 when comparing apples to apples with similar six-cylinder engines and power to all four wheels. The V8 model increased by $4,000 and the diesel, interestingly enough, dropped by $100.
