Up for sale is a very limited production and desirable 1983 BMW 320is.  Last for the E21 body style.  The "is" model gives you a number of options including beautiful and comfortable, Recaro leather seats, along with a limited slip rear end, special alloy wheels, and other performance options.  This car spent it's enitre life in the Jacksonville, FL area as a daily driver for the first 20+ years of it's life.  Most of the miles are commuter/highway miles.  You would never guess that the odometer reads 238,000 miles based on the appearance of the vehicle and the way it drives down the road.  As an avid BMW enthusiast, I first noticed the vehicle about 3-4 years ago at Sam's BMW in Jacksonville, FL.  The orginal owner had tried to keep the vehicle going as his daily driver, having the cylinder head rebuilt, new A/C compressor, and new cluctch, but in the end, he didn't want to continue with the injection system troubleshooting.   The car sat at Sam's BMW for a couple of years until I convinced the original owner that the car shoul be back on the road.  The car has been brought back to life, roars down the road, and is ready for a new loving owner.  In essence, all but about 1,500 miles have been logged by the original owner.  Below are further details on vehicle condition.

Body

This vehicle is incredibly straight and true down for a 30-year old vehicle.  It certainly looks like it's the original paint, with decent shine remaining.  The bumpers and rubber are great.  Obiously, the original owner kept this in his garage and babied it.  A couple of pimples of surface rust starting to show, but very presentable.  This car is an easy resoration/repaint, or one that could be enjoyed as is for a number a years.  You get compliments from BMW afficionados.

Interior

Original carpet and floormats are present and in great shape.  The Recaro Sport seats are the best I've seen on this model.  All mutli-adjustments work.  Sunroof opens and closes.  Rear seat is in great condition.  The dash has received a professionally installed dash cap/cover from Bavarian Motorsports.  Door panels and headliner are very good.  All gauges work appropriately.  Upgraded stereo system to AM/FM/CD with remote.  Leather wrapped steering wheel has stitching that has expanded.   A leather re-wrap of the steering wheel should be an easy fix.

Mechanicals

The mechanics and overall driveability of this vehicle really makes it stand out.  Bilstein sport struts, new tires.  New clutch at 220k miles.  New A/C compressor at 218k miles and new evaporator recently (A/C is working great).  Rebuilt cylinder head at 218k miles.  More recent work (last 2k milest) include:  new brake master cylinder, new clutch master cylinder, new radiator and fan, and recent installation of a Webber 32/36 carb and removal of the fuel injection system.  Quite simply, this car starts simply, idles and revs throught the rpm band effortlessly, and burns no oil.  It also shifts precisely, runs/tracks "true" down the road, brakes correctly, and handles remarkebly well for a 30-year old vehicle.  Truely one of BMW's finer models for durability, ease of maintenance, and overall driving pleasure.

Own a piece of BMW history.  This model is fastly appreciating.  Please remember, your bid is a contract.  Zero feedback please contact prior to bidding.  Vehicle is available for inspection and test drive.   Thanks for bidding.

Bangle urges auto design shakeup, says industry not innovating

Fri, 30 Aug 2013

Controversial designer Chris Bangle, the man behind the notorious E65 BMW 7-Series "Bangle Butt," has some rather sharp criticism for the current crop of automotive designers in an upcoming full-length interview with Automotive News Europe. The preview, posted on Automotive News, details parts of the interview, with the always vocal Bangle lamenting the state of modern automotive design.
"Even concept cars today simply anticipate the next production model coming down the line. Is this innovation? No. And at the end of the day this is what's preventing car design from moving into a new era." Controversial as Bangle's design philosophy may be, we can't help but think he has a point. His so-called "flame surfacing" at BMW and other stylistic elements had a huge influence on modern automotive design, although as the years have passed, there hasn't been much innovation on the same scale.
Interestingly, Bangle also mentions that he's been courted by a few manufacturers that wanted to install the American as the head of their design teams. He's flatly rejected them, telling ANE, "It's not something you can do part time, you have to do it with all your heart and soul or you're going to get it wrong."

BMW-Toyota joint sports car project is on like Donkey Kong

Mon, 30 Dec 2013

It's official - there will be a jointly developed sports car from BMW and Toyota. While the two auto giants signed a Memorandum of Understanding that pledged to pursue "joint development of architecture and components for a future sports vehicle" back in June of 2012, in the interim, it has remained unclear how those plans had been progressing. BMW has finally officially confirmed that the German and Japanese manufacturers will be codeveloping a pair of sports cars in addition to pursuing other disciplines including fuel cell systems and lightweight technologies.
"We have agreed on a joint architecture for a sports car. What is important is that there will be two different vehicles that are authentic to the two brands," BMW Development Chief Herbert Diess told Germany's Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Reuters is reporting. This is a very, very big step for both brands, but now the speculation can officially begin as to what the products of this agreement will look like.
There's ample reason to believe that the BMW-Toyota tie up will result in a Supra successor based on comments made by the chief engineer of the GT86/FR-S program, Tatsuya Tada, back in August. Follow that with a rumor from earlier this month that Toyota could debut a Supra concept car at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show later this month, and we could be seeing the fruits of this partnership sooner rather than later.

BMW suing Saab Automobile Parts for $3.2M

Fri, 24 Aug 2012

Saab might be all but dead, but that's not stopping automakers that were once involved with the Swedish brand from attempting to reclaim losses. According to a Fox Business report, BMW has filed a 2.6 million Euro suit ($3.2 million USD) with a Swedish district court against Saab Automobile Parts for deliveries that went unpaid.
In 2012, Saab Automobile AB signed an agreement BMW that would see the German automaker deliver four-cylinder gas engines for its 9-3 range.
The suit also asserts that Saab ordered a large number of spare parts, and no payments were made to BMW. At the time, Saab was far from liquid, and filed for bankruptcy in December of last year.
