Hi, I have a 1976 BMW 2002 in Indianapolis that is partially restored. I would like to sell in hopes of buying a roundie later on.  I'll try to be as detailed as I can, though message me with any questions, please!

It was purchased in Florida last year and I have worked on it almost every day up until previous winter.  Mileage unknown as odometer doesn't work (as usual), though I don't believe it has been rebuild as it uses about 1/2 quart of oil every 1000 miles or so.  It is an Automatic (which shift perfectly through all gears) and has a electric sunroof (originally hand crank, but I installed it using an original Bosch sunroof motor) as well as Behr A/C (needs to be purged).  It is very solid (rockers, shock towers) and would only need two things to be a daily driver: a radiator and front axle work.  A new paint job and detailing can make this a show car easily.

Things I've done:
- The only areas that had major rot-through rust were the driver and passenger floor, so I had in new sheet metal welded in both areas.
- The underbody and rear subframe has POR-15 semi gloss black.
- The sunroof drain tubes were rusted out and have been repaired. The rear tubes drain above the rear wheel arch.
- Headliner has been installed (albeit not the best) as well as tan cut-pile carpet (molded).
- Sound deadener has been applied on the floor pans and rear seat back.
- New rear quarter window seals.
- New sunroof felt/rubber seals.
- New primary and secondary muffler from ANSA.
- A/C controls didn't work when I bought it, but I fixed the electric part. It needs to be purged and recharged.  Included is two freon cans to refill.  The compressor works, but may need oil. Also one of the refrigerant hoses was broken so I bought a new hose and fitting which need to be crimped.
- Removed red engine fan and replaced with electric fan in front of condenser. (still have original parts).
- Removed emissions wiring
- New idle jet.

Things previously done before purchased:
- 32/36 DGEV with water choke.
- Later E30 bottlecap wheels. (Originally wheel as spare, but no tire)
- Originally Sahara.  Repainted Green (I believe a Mercedes color) at South Beach Classics.  Not a great paint job, and there was at one time a satalite radio receiver on the trunk taken off, leaving a Sahara tan patch. Some scratches here and there but overall, its all one color and mostly nice.
- Some VERY MINIMAL body filler on sunroof, near front sunroof drain exit, and valence.
- CD Player (Occasionally skips depending on the disk.)  Door panel and parcel shelf speakers (which sound tolerable)

Things needing to be done:
- Most notably and recently: the front brakes, bearings, and alignment.  It takes almost two feet to stop the car so I wouldn't recommend driving it very far/fast.
- Also a big deal: it needs a new radiator badly.  There is a mini geyser under the grille that makes it somewhat embarrassing to drive.  It doesn't overheat as long as the water is topped off.
- The A/C, as mentioned.  Or it can be removed.
- For a show car, the sunroof needs a new lid, new guides and some TLC.  It closes too high in the front.  It would be better to get one from a donor car.  However, the motor works fine.  It will also keep you dry as I fixed the drains. $200 for a new lid from 2002ad.com if you desire to get a new one.
- No horn buttons (horn works though...the buttons just broke.)
- Some minor scratches and a shallow door ding (repainted over before I purchased it.)
- Rear window seal was aftermarket and doesn't fit right, but keeps water out. Always buy OEM I now learned.  I do have the chrome strip though I will include.

Seats have no tears at all and the dash is not substantially cracked.  All electrics/lights work.  It may POSSIBLY need a starter in the distant future as it has given me trouble ONLY ONCE (hitting it with a rachet fixed it).  Transmission shifts perfectly.  I kept most everything original other than the electric fan.  Have all the parts when first purchased which I will include.  Also some misc parts (additional cluster parts, new rear wheel bearings, A/C manifold gauges)

2014 BMW R NineT

Tue, 26 Aug 2014

BMW is taking a page from the Harley-Davidson playbook with its groundbreaking R NineT. A retro cafe racer with an urban hooligan twist, the bike is fully customizable from fork to exhaust. Of course, any motorcycle can be customized, but the fact that BMW has built its newest bike to encourage modification using parts that can be swapped with simple tools is a radical move for a motorcycle maker best known for its plug-and-play touring bikes.
To underscore exactly how radical, BMW has even partnered with custom heavy-hitter Roland Sands Design, which developed the initial concept for the bike and is now manufacturing a full line of parts and accessories for the R NineT, including radial valve covers ($950), retro racing saddles ($400-$420), radial gauge housing ($400) and a radial headlight bezel ($250), among other things, all of which can be swapped with a socket wrench or screwdriver instead of a hacksaw, wire cutters and TIG welder.
Alas, the bike I tested for two weeks was stock, so consider it a blank canvas.

These are the top luxury cars bought by people entering the segment for the first time

Fri, 25 Jul 2014

Let's say you just got a big promotion at work or the kids are moving out of the house, and you finally have some extra money. You decide to blow it all at once and treat yourself by upgrading your ride. Naturally, you look to a luxury automaker. What do you choose?
Models like the Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class may be tailor-made to introduce buyers to the premium segment, but a new study finds that they don't garner the highest rates of non-luxury customer conquests. It turns out that a Volvo leads among folks moving up to a premium brand, and it isn't even one that's made anymore, at that.
A recent study by Polk and IHS Automotive looked at what models had the highest rates of buyers upgrading from a non-luxury segment. The information comes from its new vehicle registration data through April 2014. All ten top models boasted conquest rates of over 50 percent, but the Volvo C70 led the field with 68.01 percent of its customers coming from non-premium brands.

BMW M3 and M4 CSL not in the cards

Mon, 27 Jan 2014

We aren't sure whether to file this one under "good news" or "bad news." BMW confirmed to Top Gear that there "are no plans" for lightweight versions of the new M3 and M4, in the same vein as the E46 M3 CSL (despite rumors to the contrary). The reason?
"There wasn't a CSL on the previous generation, and the way we look at it is like this: the CSL was great because it had this real focus on lightweight engineering. But we've already done that with these new cars. We've made them as light as possible - they come in under 1500 kilograms (3,306 pounds), which for a car like this is incredible," said Matt Collins, BMW's product manager for small to medium cars.
Now, as much as we love the idea of a hardcore version of any car, we appreciate BMW's point of view that the newest Ms are already as light and tough as they need to be. Collins elaborated, saying, "Rather than doing a halfway house to begin with and then rolling out a CSL, we thought we'd make the 'real' car as light as we possibly could. So we've no plans whatsoever to make a lighter, harder version just yet."
