Buying a house so my R8 needs to go ASAP! After owning an Elise, and a Gallardo I opted for the R8 V8 for my next supercar. I couldn't be a happier owner! Compared to the Lamborghini and Ferrari the R8 V8 is affordable and comfortable as a daily driver. The magnetic suspension provides for a very smooth ride over rough pavement, and stiff suspension when you hit the canyons. The original exhaust was fairly quiet and I was looking for something with more of a growl so I upgraded to the GMG WC-R8 GT Exhaust ($6,600 installed) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQI94ZJxwuQ&feature=share&list=UUWrdZtbw7PP16Vt1YHZk9rg The exhaust completely changed the attitude of the car and is sure to make you smile the entire drive. The R-Tronic transmission shifts firm with no clutch issues, tires have 85% tread remaining, engine is a reliable beast with around 440hp. I've driven it from California to Colorado a few times and have nothing but great things to say about owning it. This is a supercar you can drive to the grocery store (I did) and then out to a nice dinner. Audi Sport Quattro Concept makes video debut
Wed, 30 Oct 2013Audi has stayed quiet about its Sport Quattro Concept since the 700-horsepower, tangerine rocket debuted at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show - a followup to Quattro Concept shown at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. Now, Audi has broken the plug-in hybrid out to give thanks to its Facebook fans, which now number over 100,000 strong (103,123 as of this writing).
As impressive as that number is, it does seem a bit strange that Audi USA's Facebook page has netted 7.3 million likes, 73 times what Audi's global page has received. Of course, we're not complaining about seeing the Sport Quattro Concept in action, and neither should you. Take a look below for the entire video.
Audi TT Ultra Quattro Concept throws lightness at the problem
Thu, 25 Apr 2013Audi is celebrating the 2013 Wörthersee Tour with a special concept version of the company's TT. The Audi TT Ultra Quattro concept tips the scales at just 2,449 pounds thanks to some extensive engineering work. The company pulled nearly 95 lbs from the car's body structure and used carbon-fiber reinforced plastics for many of its detachable body components. As a result, the concept weighs in at a full 220 pounds lighter than its production counterpart. Throw in a wicked turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 310 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, and you get a machine with the power to weight ratio in the supercar realm. 0-60 comes up in 4.2 seconds and top speed is listed at 173 mph.
Inside, the TT Ultra Quattro features plenty of carbon fiber trim, and designers also fitted the seats from the R8 GT to save a little weight. The buckets use CFRP for the seat frames, saving nearly 50 pounds in the process. In a world where automakers seem blind to the negative effect of throwing more heft at a vehicle, we're in love with the Ultra Quattro concept. Woman wins Audi R8 Spyder on The Price Is Right, goes bananas
Mon, 30 Dec 2013Of course, we love to tune into The Price Is Right to see average Americans spin the big wheel, play a round of Plinko or Cliff Hangers, and participate in the gladiatorial Showcase Showdown. But there is one reason, and one reason alone that the daytime game show has captivated us since its inception in 1972... 'A new car!!!'
Back in November, the show held a Dream Car Week that saw contestants get the chance to win whips like a Porsche 911 and a BMW 6 Series, amongst others. It must have been pretty successful, as the PIR team is back at it, this time giving away an Audi R8 Spyder with a sticker price of $157,300. That makes it the single most-expensive item given away in the show's history.
The R8's new owner, Sheree Heil, may not fit the image of a typical R8 driver - we anticipate she'll learn which side of the car to drive on after the show is over - but she is clearly tickled pink with her big win. Check out the insanity below.
