For Sale/Auction is a 1997 Audi A4 1.8T.  This car needs a head gasket but still runs and drives.  We bought the car over 3 years ago to be used as a work commuter car.  We hit a deer with it and it broke the drivers side mirror (scratches) and cracked the windshield.  The next day was an ice storm and going to the insurance office my son hit a curb and took out the front passenger side wheel.  The insurance company totaled the car, so it does have a salvage title.  We bought the car from the insurance company put a new wheel, windshield and new mirror(suspension was fine and in alignment) on the car; that's it.  My son drove the car for 2 more trouble free years until the head gasket went out.

The prior owner put a ton of upgraded performance parts on the car before we bought it.  The turbo is an upgraded k5, exhaust is stainless steel, Borla with dual tips.  Front calipers are new and from an A8.  Lots of stainless lines for fuel and brake components.  The car also has a 90hp chip in it, lowered suspension ($2500 in that alone) and NEW tires.  The headlights were new at Christmas and are xenon 8000k.  The clear coat paint is pealing and on the hood and trunk but he body is straight.  The interior is in very good condition, all the power options work and the AC is super cold.  The car has been sitting for a few months and I noticed a growl in the back rear wheel so the bearing could be dry but still drivable.  We had a gel-cell battery in it and I want to keep that so if you come for the car bring a battery or we can work something out for a different one.

The tires and rims you see in the pictures are also for sale for an extra $400.  They are 18" Moto Metal wheels with 30% tires and they do fit this car even though they were never on it.  My son knows more about the car than I do so please email questions through the eBay listing and he will answer them.  The auction will have a small reserve to make sure I cover the cost of new tires and such.  There are a ton of usable parts on this car or just fix the head gasket and drive it.  I take PayPal or greenbacks in person at pick up.  For a fee the car can be delivered if paid for in advance.  Please call or email for details on doing that.  Thanks and bid to win.

Which would you rather have, Audi's RS5 or Mercedes' C63 AMG 507?

Wed, 26 Feb 2014

If you're in the market for a German sports coupe with a naturally aspirated V8, run, don't walk, to your nearest dealer because they are going to be gone very soon. European fuel economy and emissions rules have conspired to force automakers into seeking forced-induction mills. Motor Trend personality Jonny Lieberman is hosting the retirement party in the latest Head 2 Head video, where he takes on the 2014 Audi RS5 and 2014 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Edition 507 to decide which is the ultimate Teutonic V8.
To make the decision harder, Lieberman challenges the duo on the first soaking wet roads that Southern California has seen in ages. It forces the coupes to confront some of the actual weather that the rest of the country encounters regularly and serves to even the playing field somewhat between the charismatic rear-drive Mercedes-Benz and the all-wheel drive Audi.
It really is the end of an era for these coupes. The next Audi RS4 is rumored to switch to a twin-turbo V6, and while Mercedes won't officially admit it, the next C-Class AMG will likely switch to a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. And we already know the next BMW M3/M4 will rely on a 425-horsepower, 3.0-liter inline-six. Let's enjoy these eight-cylinder German giants while we can, and scroll down to watch the video.

Audi RS7 prototype is world's sportiest self-driving car [w/video]

Wed, 15 Oct 2014

Audi may not be the only automaker out there toying with self-driving automobile technology, but it is arguably the fastest of them. A few years back, it raced unleashed a driverless TTS on the Bonneville Salt Flats, then sent it up Pikes Peak and around Thunderhill. But now it's taking things a step further with the vehicle you see here.
This RS7 Sportback has been fitted with steering, brakes, throttle and transmission hooked up to a computer system that combines GPS, high-frequency radio signals and 3D imaging camera to drive the vehicle autonomously not just in slow-paced, stop-and-go traffic, but around the track at the same pace a professional racing driver would push it: full throttle on the straights, full braking before the corner and 1.1-g of cornering force.
As promised, Audi plans to unleash the self-driving RS7 - which it calls "the sportiest piloted driving car in the world" - at Hockenheim next weekend prior to the DTM season finale, where it is anticipated to pull a 2:10 lap time. The next stage will be to set it lose on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, all 154 turns and 13 miles of it, which ought to pose a heck of a challenge to the engineers from Ingolstadt. In the meantime you can scope it out in the high-res image gallery above and the second teaser video below.

Don't hold your breath for an Audi RS8

Mon, 14 Oct 2013

There was a time not so long ago when Quattro GmbH produced essentially one model at a time. But that time is behind us. These days it's expanding into a full-fledged performance division to rival Mercedes-AMG and BMW's M department. Quattro GmbH is currently building the Audi RS4 Avant, RS5 coupe and cabrio, RS6 Avant, RS7, RS Q3 and the TT RS coupe and roadster - not to mention the R8. And while it's showing no signs of slowing down, but the latest intel from across the pond suggests we shouldn't count on an RS version of Audi's flagship sedan.
This according to Car and Driver, which spoke to Stephan Reil, the chief engineer at Quattro GmbH. Reil says Audi works on a teutonically rigid performance formula: an RS model has to have 20 to 25 percent more power than the existing S version. Considering that the existing S8 makes 512 horsepower and the RS7 a solid 553, we're not sure Audi really needs anything more powerful. But by Reil's calculations, the RS8 would need to pack between 630 and 655 hp, which would put it well ahead of rivals like the 550-hp Jaguar XJR, the 540-hp BMW Alpina B7, the 523-hp Maserati Quattroporte and even the new 577-hp Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG - and in league only with the even more powerful S65 AMG, which in its outgoing form produced 630 hp.
The question then comes down to whether there are enough customers lining up for the S65 that Audi would want to poach away from Mercedes. Or perhaps more pertinently, whether it might end up just taking customers from the new Bentley Flying Spur, which is already offering 616 horsepower in an even more prestigious, if less performance-focused package. Either way you look at it, Audi is apparently steering clear.
